August 19, 2011, is the ELEVENTH   Polygamy Day ®. That means that it was ten years ago today that this annual celebration was first begun!

Significant events have occurred over the previous year, all leading up to this year's celebration of "Polygamy Day ® 11."

Starting in August, 2010, the National Polygamy Advocate, Mark Henkel, had begun a long-term public speaking project, presenting the "Polygamy Rights WIN-WIN Solution for ending the marriage debate" in front of live audiences.

In the Fall of 2010, the television network, TLC, broke away from its anti-polygamy past and actually began broadcasting a polygamy-friendly new reality-TV show called, "Sister Wives." The show was about a big Mormon Polygamist family that involved only consenting adults.

In January, 2011, President Barack Obama called for the US Military to begin the process of dismantling "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" (DADT) from being applied. In February, 2011, he also ordered the US Attorney General to stop defending the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA). While these actions raise legitimate questions (including constitutionality), the consequences still do have an impact on the American freedom rights for consenting adult polygamists around the country. Pro-polygamists are definitely watching this process and taking note.

As well, the New York State Legislature passed and created the new legal-construct of same sex marriage. Polygamists perceive that the more that same sex marriage supporters win these kinds of political "victories," the more that the one-man/one-woman marriage controllers will see that their ONLY option left to "stop" government legalization of same sex marriage is the Polygamy Rights WIN-WIN Solution for ending the marriage debate. On July 22, 2011, evangelical Christian and about-to-be-announced GOP Presidential Candidate, Rick Perry, came quite close to sounding like he is prepared to do just that - as he publicly acknowledged the Tenth Amendment anti-federal position in favor of New York's state-level law enacting same sex marriage, even though he does not support same sex marriage. He is reported to have said, "Our friends in New York six weeks ago passed a statute that said marriage can be between two people of the same sex. And you know what? That's New York, and that's their business, and that's fine with me. That is their call. If you believe in the 10th Amendment, stay out of their business." While most polygamists believe that big government has no business being involved in marriage control for unrelated consenting adults at even the state level, Rick Perry's comment shows that evangelical Christian candidates are now moving toward this position indeed. As this "get-federal-government-out-of-marriage-control" example shows pro-polygamists everywhere, Christian Conservatives really will eventually discover that their only solution to end the marriage debate really is the Polygamy Rights WIN-WIN Solution.

And finally, by August, 2011, Warren Jeffs, the head of the rogue, isolated Mormon-based sect, the FLDS, was convicted and sentenced for his underaged crimes in Texas. Ten years ago, another rogue Mormon would-be "polygamist" involved in such underaged crimes, named Tom Green, had been sentenced in August 2001. Despite the National Polygamy Rights Movement for Consenting Adults vehemently decrying and standing against Tom Green's underaged crimes ten years ago, Warren Jeffs took control of his own "private" little Mormon sect, the FLDS, he ignored the National Polygamy Movement who never recognized him anyway, and he still committed such underage crimes while calling himself a "polygamist." So, it was fitting and extremely ironic that, when Warren Jeffs was finally sentenced in August, 2011, to life imprisonment plus 20 years, the Courthouse in which Jeffs was sentenced was in TOM GREEN County in Texas. In media reports and interviews, National Polygamy Advocate, Mark Henkel, loudly declared the national movement's adamant view that Jeffs was never a "polygamist leader" and that the national movement had always opposed Jeffs and his crimes.

With so many news events happening, and the amazing fact that this celebration began ten years ago today, consenting adult polygamy supporters continue to have much to consider as well as to celebrate on August 19, 2011, "Polygamy Day ® 11."
